NEW!! Zoom Air Frequently Asked Question in Chinese

NEW!! How to design the wireless network using Zoom Air in Chinese

ZoomAir Wireless Networking products bring affordable, high quality, upgradeable, industry standards-based wireless technology to business and institutional users.

Three products comprise the ZoomAir wireless system: the ZoomAir PC Card, the ZoomAir ISA NIC (Network Interface Card) and the ZoomAir Access Point Software.  ZoomAir hardware and software facilitate the  wireless expansion of existing Ethernet LANs (Local Area Networks) or even the construction of modestly sized all-wireless networks.

ZoomAir Wireless Network technology is ideal for small to medium sized offices where a wireless network may be economically and logistically preferable to a wired LAN.  Large offices with a wired network already in place can also benefit from the flexible network expansion opportunities offered by ZoomAir. ZoomAir technology is also appropriate for as schools, conference rooms, hospitals, retail outlets, construction sites, production lines, and warehouses.

ZoomAir Wireless Networking hardware products are fully compliant with the adopted IEEE 802.11 worldwide standard for such devices.  This means ZoomAir wireless network cards are interoperable with standards-compliant devices from other sources, integrate seamlessly into existing wired  networks, and will be compatible with high-speed, IEEE 802.11 devices of the future .  ZoomAir wireless network cards transmit and receive data at up to 2Mbps on the 2.4 GigaHertz (GHz) frequency band using the latest DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) technology.  In a typical business environment, ZoomAir Wireless Network cards will transmit and receive data reliably up to 300 feet.  In an unobstructed outdoor setting the typical range increases to approximately 1000 feet.

The ZoomAir Wireless Networking provides dense, multi-layered data security.  The system’s spread spectrum operational mode is inherently resistant to noise, interference, jamming and unauthorized monitoring.  Additionally, ZoomAir firmware incorporates 48-bit, four level Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) data encryption.  As the name implies, wirelessly transmitted data protected  by WEP is as secure as it would be on a wired network.  Use of  ZoomAir Access Point software further enhances data security by establishing a 32-character wireless network system ID, thus making the wireless LAN accessible only to those devices “fingerprinted” with the same ID.  Additional levels of security can be added using standard network password protocols and third-party data encryption software.  In short, as compared with an Ethernet LAN, ZoomAir Wireless Networking data security is in no way compromised.

  • Standards based IEEE 802.11 insures compatibility with DSSS and country specific channel support at 2.4 GHz; avoid non-standard products for WAN applications (example: Bluetooth and HomeRF) and FHSS’s limited data rate
  • 300 ft indoors / 1000 ft outdoors range?2 Mbps data rate ? integrated antenna ?Windows 95/98/NT drivers ?WEP security (40-bit data encryption) and 32-character network ID security
  • Access Point Software: Distinctive low cost software solution utilizing existing PC devices ?extend the range of ad-hoc set-ups (using the full radius around a centered access point) ... supports NIC card wired connections (10/100bT NT, TCP/IP and Novell networks) ?roaming ability between covered access point areas ?WEP (40-bit data encryption) and 32-character network ID security ?includes 30 user SyGate Internet sharing software
  • Radio cards manufactured at high volume with a well controlled tuning process
  • WW compatibility includes both FCC and ETSI approval (and CE marked) ?approved for use in over 14 countries

Significantly lower expenses & life-cycle costs than wired LAN especially in dynamic areas:

  • Mobility
  • Real-time connectivity within the range of network peers and access points
  • Ease and economy of installation ?Go where wire cannot
  • Painless moves / Simple relocations ?Wireless LAN connection moves with the PC
  • Scalability
  • Configuration ranging from user peer-to-peer to full infrastructure networks accommodating thousands of users
