What is V.92?
V.92 is a new standard for dial-up communications that offers several important improvements over the existing V.90 standard. These improvements are intended to make communications faster, easier, and more enjoyable. V.92 and its companion compression standard V.44 have been officially adopted by the ITU, the International Telecommunications Union.

What makes a Zoom V.92 Modem faster than V.90?
There are three features that allow the Zoom V.92 Modem to give you faster speeds.

The first is V.92's improved "automatic negotiation" or "handshake" at the start of a call. With a typical V.90 modem this can take over 20 seconds. With QuickConnect, the entire process can take less than half that time.

The Zoom V.92 Modem also includes V.44, a new international data compression standard. V.44 was designed specifically for the Internet and can dramatically increase your Web browsing and file download speeds.

Finally, the V.92 standard increases the upload speed before compression by over 40%, from 33,600 bps (the maximum upload speed using V.90) to as high as 48,000 bps.

How does V.44 increase the speed of my Web browsing?
V.44 is the latest compression standard approved by the ITU. Compression increases the effective speed of your connection by analyzing the data and encoding it so that it can be sent more efficiently. The old standard (V.42bis) was created about 10 years ago, so it wasn't designed with the Internet in mind. V.44 was, and it is therefore much more effcient at compressing Web pages.

How Can I take a phone call while I'm online?
The V.92 standard lets your ISP or online service put your data connection "on hold" while you pick up a voice call using your "call waiting" service. When you finish with the voice call you can instantly resume the connection as though you had never left.

Do I need a special service or a new ISP to use V.92 features and V.44 compression?
No. But you may not be able to take advantage of these features right away. While your current ISP will almost certainly support V.92 and V.44 at some point, it may not have upgraded to this new standard. However, V.92 and V.44 are true international standards, so over time you can be assured of nearly universal support. In the meantime, your modem will work at 56K V.90 until your ISP switches over. The Zoom / Modem V.92 is easily upgradeable with a simple software download to assure compatibility with currently implemented standards and to facilitate updates.

What is the advantage of Zoom's On-board Controller an DSP?
Many of the modems being sold today, particularly those installed by PC manufacturers, do not have a Controller or a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) on-board. These modems rely on the multi-tasking abilities of Windows software and the PC's processor to perform the complex, real-time computing required for high-speed communications. Unfortunately, this often results in poor modem performance and a significant (up to 30%) loss of PC computing power and speed.

What is ZoomGuard?
Lightning strikes are the #1 cause of modem failure. ZoomGuard is Zoom's proprietary advanced lightning protection circuitry. ZoomGuard protects your modem and your computer far better than the less effective protection normally found on competing products.

* Compatible call waiting service is required for Modem-on-Hold and may not be available in all areas or countries. Check with your ISP or online service for implementation schedule for V.92 and V.44. Maximum connection speed for 56K is 56Kpbs receive / 48 Kpbs send. Actual connect speeds may be lower due to local line conditions.

System Requirements :

- Available serial port (also called RS-232 port, modem port, or COM port)
- Voice Mail requires a soundcard for message playback (microphone required to record a personalized greeting message)
- Bundled Software
This modem's hardware works with computers running Windows, Macintosh, Unix and other operating systems, which typically include software for Internet access. To assure support for other modem features, such as fax, this modem is bundled with software on a CD ROM that requires a Windows operating system and a hard drive.

This Package Contains :

- Zoom V.92 EXT Modem
- RJ-11 Phone Cord
- User Guide
- Software on CD-ROM
